About Me

En | Simone Mannino was born in Palermo in 1981. Italian artist, painter, sculptor, set designer and theater director, based in Paris and Palermo. He’s an artist whose education has followed a non-academic path, with a long and articulated experience in the field of visual and performing arts. Since 1999 he has worked on several artistic projects at a national and international level, and has exhibited his works in different private and public institutions. In the field of theater he has collaborated, within the others, with Carlo Cecchi, Titina Maselli, Franco Scaldati, George Lavaudant, Ricci/Forte, Andrea De rosa, Ipek Bilgin and Antonio Latella.

In 2010 Mannino founded Atelier Nostra Signora, a multidisciplinary ensemble based in Palermo and Istanbul, that mixes in its works different languages linked to cinema, theater and visual arts. In 2013, Mannino received “Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano” award for the best set design and best costumes for the production C’è del pianto in queste lacrime, also nominated for an Ubu Award. In 2015 Mannino was nominated for a Turkish Afife Jale Theatre international Award for best set design in Kalp Düğümü. Since 2015 to 2017 he has worked at the Schauspielhaus Theater in Basel as set and costume designer for the plays Oedipus and Caligola, both directed by Antonio Latella. As set and costume designer, Mannino also has worked on numerous productions directed by Andrea De Rosa; Falstaff (2014), Fedra (awarded as best play by the national award of the critic ANCT in 2016), Le Baccanti (2017) and Satyricon at Teatro Grande di Pompei.

Mannino’s directorial portfolio includes such productions as Womb Tomb based on The Infernal Machine by Jean Cocteau (Garajinstanbul Theatre, Istanbul 2013-2017), Bluebeard Never Dies (Sfumato Theatre, Sofia 2015), Hard to be Pinocchio (Out Off Theater, Milan 2018) and Prometheus the Blue Kangaroo (Teatro Biondo Palermo, L’Art Rue Tunis, Theater Brême 2021). In 2018 he has debuted in the realm of lyrical theater working as stage designer for Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff and Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di lammermoor, both directed by the master Valèry Gergiev at the Theater Mariinsky in Saint Petersburg. In 2020 he got an artist residence in Paris, where lives and works.


It | Simone Mannino nato a Palermo nel 1981, artista la cui formazione è estranea ai percorsi accademici, con una lunga e articolata esperienza nell’ambito delle arti visive e performative. Pittore, scultore, scenografo e regista teatrale, privilegia nella sua ricerca artistica l’utilizzo di diversi media, secondo una visione interdisciplinare dei linguaggi maturata nel teatro. Dal 1999 numerosi i progetti artistici in ambito nazionale e internazionale ed espone le sue opere in enti pubblici e privati. Per il teatro ha collaborato, fra gli altri, con Carlo Cecchi, Titina Maselli, Matteo Bavera, Franco Scaldati, George Lavaudant, Ricci/Forte, Andrea De Rosa, Ipek Bilgin, e Antonio Latella.

Nel 2010 è fondatore di Atelier Nostra Signora, un ensemble multidisciplinare con sede a Palermo e Istanbul, che mescola nella sua ricerca linguaggi legati alle arti visive, al cinema e al teatro. Premio nazionale “Le maschere del teatro italiano” nel 2013 come migliore scenografo e costumista per lo spettacolo C’e del pianto in queste lacrime, nomination premio UBU 2013. Premio nazionale Turco “Afife Tiyatro Odulleri 2015” nomination come Migliore scenografia per lo spettacolo Kalp Dugumu. Dal 2015 al 2017 presso la Schauspielhaus Theater di Basel, ha firmato scene e costumi degli spettacoli Oedipus e la scenografia di Caligula di Albert Camus, entrambi diretti da Antonio Latella. Dal 2014 collabora con il regista Andrea De Rosa, firmando scene e costumi di molti spettacoli, tra i quali; Falstaff (2014), Fedra (2015) premio nazionale della critica ANCT 2016 migliore spettacolo, Le scenografie di Le baccanti (2017) e Satyricon (2019) al Teatro Grande di Pompei.

Tra le sue regie, dirige nel 2013 Womb Tomb liberamente ispirato a La Macchina infernale di Jean Cocteau al Teatro Garajistanbul di Istanbul, Bluebeard never dies (Sfumato Theater di Sofia, Bulgaria 2015). Nel 2018 firma adattamento, scene e regia di Hard To Be Pinocchio (Teatro Out Off di Milano, Teatro Biondo di Palermo 2018), Prometheus the Blue Kangaroo, con attori italiani e arabi ( L’Art Rue Tunis, Theater Brême 2021). Nel 2018 debutta nella lirica al Teatro Mariinsky di San Pietroburgo, con le scenografie del Falstaff di Giuseppe Verdi e Lucia di Lammermoor di Gaetano Donizetti (2019), entrambe opere dirette dal maestro Valèry Gergiev, ancora oggi rappresentate. Dal 2020 vive e lavora a Parigi.

Gli Olimpici del Teatro “Le ma- schere del teatro italiano” 2013 en tant que meilleur scénographe et créateur de costumes pour le spectacle C’è del pianto in queste lacrime, nomination pour le prix UBU 2013. Prix national turc “Afife Tiyatro Odulleri 2015” nomination comme meilleur décor pour le spectacle Kalp Dugumu. Parmi les productions théâtrales, citons les décors de Natale in casa Cupiello (Teatro di Roma – Teatro Argentina 2014), les scènes et les costumes d’Œdipe, et la scénographie de Caligula d’Albert Camus ( Schauspiel Theater Basel 2015/2017).  Les scènes du projet Troilo VS Cressidaby Ricci/Forte (Teatro Biondo à Palerme, Festival dei due mondi Spoleto 2017). Scènes et costumes de Phaedra de Sénèque (Emilia Romagna Teatro – Teatro Stabile di Torino 2015) prix national de la critique “ANCT 2016 best performance”. Le baccantid’Euripide au Teatro Grande di Pompei en 2017 et Satyricon de Francesco Piccolo inspiré par Petronius (Teatro Stabile Napoli, Teatro di Roma, Fondazione Campania dei Festival, Napoli Teatro Festival Italia 2019).

Il débute à l’Opéra comme scénographe avec Falstaff de Giuseppe Verdi et Lucia di Lammermoor de Gaetano Donizetti au Théâtre Mariinsky de Saint-Pétersbourg (2018/2019). Parmi ses productions, il met en scène Womb Tomb, librement inspiré de La machine infernale de Jean Cocteau (Théâtre Garajistanbul, Istanbul 2013) – Hard to Be Pinocchio (Théâtre Out Off, Milan 2018) et Prometheus the Blue Kangaroo (Théâtre Biondo de Palerme, L’Art Rue Tunis, Théâtre Brême 2021).
